This is what happens when #geoData geeks are on Twitter! @urschrei and @en_topia created a map of London where the buildings grew based on the number of Tweets that are generated from them. Enjoy!
Blake Shaw of Foursquare on contextual awareness (video)
First, some amazing stats.
Cataloged 55 million places
4.5 billion total check-ins
6 million check-ins a day
@metablake of Foursquare talks about their new offering. (Funny thing about accuracy, is that Brightkite originally had place-snapping back in 2008.) I really like the thought of chiming in when you’re out of your element. Enjoy!
Privacy
I recently received an update on the Big Boulder Initiative from Gnip. (More info here.) There were three things in update that really interested me. 1) Privacy – what is it and how can it be provided,  2) ROI – because we all hate wasting money and 3) Education – I love to teach. The biggest potential to derail social data and it’s application in making businesses...
The Big Boulder Initiative (video)
I’ve been fortunate enough to attend the last two Big Boulder events; here, here and even recommended context as the next subject here. At the end of the last event, they launched the Big Boulder Initiative. This is an update on their progress. (Details here.) Enjoy!
Eric Berlow and Sean Gourley: Mapping ideas worth spreading (video)
Even if you’re not a data geek, you have to love this. Enjoy!
The concierge and the future of mobile advertising

It’s been a great process and as we work through their models I realized that we’ve crossed over some conceptual threshold. From proactive to reactive. Now . . . most times when I say something like that, there is a slight groan that comes from the audience. I understand...
Volkswagen’s SmileDrive! (video)
SmileDrive is Volkwagen’s attempt to gamify driving. (Imagine texting while driving but 30 times more dangerous! Â :) Â ) This is great but would be a million times better if it were mashed with Grand Theft Auto. “Get a 1000 points for running over your neighbors dog!” Enjoy!
What Google knows (infographic)
Not surprising . . .
Tweet maps
I saw this amazing tweet map of Chicago on Wired and thought I’d share it. The red are tweets from iPhones and the green are from Android phones. Amazing data visualization!
#BigBoulder 2014: it’s all about context!
I was fortunate enough to attend the Big Boulder Conference (about a month ago) with a star studded cast of data geeks and it was yet again, an amazing experience. The focus this year was decidedly international and if I had only one word to sum it up, that word would be: Brazil. (I’ve posted in the past about the Brazilian culture and it’s passion for social, here. There is and will...
